First Anglo Maratha war. (1775 - 1782)



Only after the death of Maratha Peshwa Rajaram, mutual differences started in Maratha, due to which Maratha could not unite, it directly benefited the British and the first Anglo Maratha war was the first war between the British and Marathas, it started in 1775.  During this, the Governor General of the Company was Warren Hastings.  And Peshwa Raghunath Rao was from Maratha side.  In 1775 AD, there was a treaty of Surat between the British and the Marathas.  The treaty of Purandar took place in 1776 between the British and the Marathas, just one year after the start of the war.  Under this, the company had withdrawn the support of Raghunath Rao.  In January 1779 AD, the British were badly defeated by the Marathas at Badgaon but still they continued the war and made a treaty of Badgaon with the Marathas.  In 1782, the British and the Marathas ended the first Anglo-Maratha war with the Salbai Treaty.
